The Casa das Mudas Arts Centre is one of Madeira’s major cultural centers, located in Calheta, on the southern coast of the island. The building, with contemporary architecture, stands out for its prime location, offering breathtaking views over the ocean and surrounding landscape. The center is dedicated to the promotion of visual arts and offers a diverse program of contemporary art exhibitions, performances, and cultural events.

The building was designed to blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings, featuring large windows that allow natural light to flood the space and provide panoramic views. In addition to hosting temporary exhibitions, the Casa das Mudas also has a permanent collection of art, featuring works by both local and international artists.

Fun Fact: The name “Casa das Mudas” comes from the fact that the area was once used for sugarcane cultivation, and it was a place where plant cuttings (mudas) were grown before being planted in the fields.
